Bankruptcy Courts

Bankruptcy cases are not filed in state court. The Bankruptcy Code is United States Federal law. In most of the 94 federal districts, bankruptcy matters are filed in the bankruptcy court. These courts apply bankruptcy laws to help people unable to pay their creditors get a fresh start. They also help protect troubled businesses and provide for orderly distributions to creditors.
